Spring is quickly approaching, which means market season is almost here! I love a good farmers’ market, and here in Edmonton, Alberta, we’re lucky to have a few great ones to choose from. My favourite market to visit is the Bountiful Farmers’ Market. When I was dreaming up the Fox Creek Market Bag, this market was exactly what I had in mind. It’s a year-round indoor market with the coziest boho vibes—and nothing says boho quite like neutral colours in a granny-stitch-esque market bag. I say granny-stitch-esque because this isn’t actually the granny stitch. If you're a granny stitch lover, you will love this pattern!

The stitch used throughout this pattern is a 2 treble crochet cluster worked over three stitches. This creates an open, airy fabric with beautiful drape—perfect for a market bag that needs to be both sturdy and flexible. The elongated treble stitches give the bag a relaxed, slightly vintage feel, while the clustered structure adds just enough texture to keep things interesting. The result is a stitch pattern that looks intricate but works up rhythmically, giving the Fox Creek Market Bag its signature cozy, boho-inspired look. It’s lightweight, breathable, and ideal for showing off soft neutral colours that feel right at home at a farmers’ market.

The Fox Creek Market Bag is worked using Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton in three soft, neutral shades: Ecru, Caramel, and Café au Lait. This 100% cotton, worsted-weight yarn is known for its smooth texture and durability, making it an excellent choice for a sturdy, reusable market bag. Each 50 g skein contains approximately 125 yards (114 m) of yarn and is machine washable and dryable—perfect for a bag that’s meant to be used, loved, and tossed in the wash after a busy market day.

Lion Brand 24/7 Cotton holds its shape beautifully while still feeling soft in your hands, and its wide range of neutral colours makes it ideal for subtle striping and timeless designs. For this pattern, you’ll need one skein of each colour, or three skeins if you prefer to work the bag in a single shade.

In this design, Café au Lait is used for the base and handles, grounding the bag with a rich neutral tone. Caramel creates the first stripe, adding warmth, while Ecru finishes the colourwork with a light, airy contrast that enhances the bag’s cozy boho feel.
